What is Secure Domain Name Holding?

BMO Match Card offers a secure domain holding service that allows Buyers and Sellers to hold domain(s) in escrow while the Buyer makes scheduled payments. This ensures a safe and transparent transaction for both parties.

Standard Fees

The service includes a domain Holding Fee along with our standard Escrow Fee if a purchase is involved. The Holding Fee is calculated based on the domain’s value and the holding period length.

Fee Structure:

  • Lease with Purchase: (0.01% of the domain value OR a minimum of $100) × holding period in months
  • Lease Only: (0.02% of the domain value OR a minimum of $200) × holding period in months

Additional Fees:

  • Payment Schedule Change Fee: Any modification to the agreed payment schedule incurs a $250 fee.
  • DNS Administrative Fee: Requests for administrative changes to the held domain name incur an $85 fee.

Note: The domain holding service requires a minimum term of three months and a maximum of five years.

How Domain Name Holding Works

  1. Initiating the Transaction: Either the Buyer or Seller can initiate the domain holding process with BMO Match Card. If a Broker is involved, they must set up the transaction.
  2. Agreement Review: BMO Match Card sends a Domain Holding Agreement to the Buyer, Seller, and Broker (if applicable) for review and signature.
  3. Domain Readiness Check: The involved parties must ensure the domain has sufficient validity before the escrow process begins.
  4. Payment Processing: Once the signed agreement is received, the Buyer submits the first payment along with any escrow fees they agreed to cover.
  5. Domain Transfer: After payment confirmation, the Seller transfers the domain(s) to BMO Match Card’s escrow account.
  6. Secure Domain Holding: The domain(s) are locked and held securely, and the first payment is released to the Seller (and Broker, if applicable).
  7. Ongoing Payments: The Buyer continues making scheduled payments, which BMO Match Card distributes to the Seller (and Broker, if applicable).
  8. Final Domain Transfer:
    • If the transaction involves a sale, the domain(s) are transferred to the Buyer after all payments are completed.
    • If the transaction is a lease, the domain(s) are returned to the Seller at the end of the term.

BMO Match Card ensures a secure and smooth escrow process, offering protection, transparency, and peace of mind for both Buyers and Sellers.
